Timeouts for Parents and Kids

We all need timeouts every now and again, and it’s OK for parents also – to have some quiet downtime. Set rules around what space is private space. For example, you could have time out signs on door knobs, or could specify a ‘quiet room’. You might also want to specify a time limit to make sure the kids do not use it as a opportunity to hide away.

Some questions for reflection…

  • Are you the “default parent” in your family?
  • Or are responsibilities shared with your partner or other parent?
  • How does it look?
  • how does it work in your family?
